The Sartorius Position on RoHS and WEEE
Sartorius: Committed to Innovation and Progress
The Sartorius Group is an internationally leading laboratory and process technology provider in biotechnology and mechatronics. Its Biotechnology Division covers filtration and separation products as well as fermenters and bioreactors, including proteomics. The Mechatronics Division manufactures equipment that features weighing, measurement and automation technology for laboratory and industrial applications.
Our technological expertise and the excellent quality of our products and services combined with a global presence make Sartorius a preferred partner to the pharmaceutical|biotech, chemical and food and beverage industries. We help our customers develop and implement complex laboratory and
industrial processes.
Sartorius is dedicated to creating sustainable value that benefits our customers, shareholders and society in general.
That is just one reason why environmental protection is firmly integrated in our decision-making processes. Sartorius is certified in compliance with the international quality and environmental management standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 for several of its business areas. As both customer and supplier, we maintain strict compliance with national and international laws and regulations.
The RoHS Directive (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment)
The RoHS Directive mandates that certain substances hazardous to health and the environment be reduced significantly in electrical and electronic equipment. The limits set forth in this Directive apply to the eight RoHS equipment Categories 1 to 7 and 10. All of the products manufactured by Sartorius belong to Category 9 (monitoring and control instruments). Previously, the limits did not apply to this Category or Category 8 (Medical Devices). However, we are convinced that we are acting in the better interests of our customers by exclusively using RoHS-compliant parts and components when developing our new products.
The WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)
The WEEE Directive requires the environmentally friendly recycling and reuse of electrical and electronic equipment. Moreover, it no longer permits old or used equipment to be disposed of as household waste. Sartorius exclusively sells its products "business to business" (B2B), i.e. to the commercial and industrial sectors. Our products and components used for industrial manufacturing processes, known as fixed and stationary installations and systems, will continue to be recycled through the disposal facilities of our customers, but in Germany and several other European countries Sartorius is organizing the collection and recycling of waste equipment itself. To that end, Sartorius has become a member of national collection and recycling programs, especially in foreign countries. For further information, please contact our domestic and foreign subsidiaries or visit our website www.sartorius.com.
All of our equipment that has been marketed and sold since August 13, 2005, and is regulated under the WEEE Directive is labeled with the crossed-out wheeled waste bin logo.
